Healthy communities are the backbone of development. SAMO delivers health and nutrition programs to reduce preventable diseases and malnutrition, especially among mothers and children. Our health interventions include: Mobile health clinics in hard-to-reach areas. Maternal, newborn, and child health services. Nutrition education and feeding programs. "Healthy lives, brighter futures."

Core Activities 

  1. Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)

    • Identify and treat Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).

    • Operate Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) sites in hard-to-reach areas.

    • Supply ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) such as Plumpy’Nut and fortified blends.

  2. Maternal & Infant Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)

    • Promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months.

    • Conduct mother-to-mother support groups on complementary feeding practices.

    • Distribute micronutrient supplements to pregnant and lactating women.

  3. School Feeding Programs

    • Provide daily nutritious meals or snacks in schools to improve attendance and concentration.

    • Support community-based kitchens for vulnerable schools.

    • Promote hygiene and nutrition education alongside feeding.

  4. Micronutrient Supplementation

    • Provide vitamin A, iron-folic acid, and deworming tablets to target groups.

    • Support blanket supplementary feeding during high-risk hunger seasons.

  5. Nutrition Education & Behavior Change Communication (BCC)

    • Conduct cooking demonstrations using locally available foods.

    • Develop culturally appropriate nutrition messages in Somali language.

    • Promote diversified diets through home gardening initiatives.

  6. Emergency Nutrition Response

    • Rapid deployment of mobile nutrition teams to drought, flood, or conflict-affected communities.

    • Distribute high-energy biscuits and fortified blended foods in crisis situations.

    • Coordinate with WFP, UNICEF, and local health facilities for immediate referrals.
