Overview

Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering community resilience.
In Somalia, many children face barriers to accessing quality education due to conflict, poverty, and displacement.
SAMO’s Education Program is designed to ensure that every child — regardless of gender, background, or circumstances — has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Core Activities 

1. Access to Quality Primary Education

   • Support the enrollment of out-of-school children, especially girls and displaced children.

   • Provide school uniforms, learning materials, and enrollment support.

   • Partner with communities to rehabilitate or construct classrooms in underserved areas.

2. Teacher Training & Capacity Building

   • Conduct regular teacher professional development workshops.

   • Train teachers in child-centered and inclusive teaching methods.

   • Support community-based volunteer teacher programs in rural areas.

3. Early Childhood Development (ECD)

   • Establish pre-primary centers for children aged 3–6.

   • Provide play-based learning materials and age-appropriate teaching aids.

   • Promote early literacy and numeracy skills.

4. School Feeding Programs

   • Provide daily meals or snacks to improve student attendance and focus.

   • Promote nutrition education alongside feeding programs.

   • Work with local suppliers to use fresh, locally grown produce.

5. Girls’ Education & Gender Equity

   • Provide menstrual hygiene kits and safe sanitation facilities for girls.

   • Conduct community sensitization on the importance of girls’ education.

   • Support mentorship programs for adolescent girls.

6. Alternative & Non-Formal Education

   • Offer literacy and numeracy programs for youth and adults who missed formal schooling.

   • Support accelerated learning programs for displaced and returnee children.

   • Provide vocational training linked to local market needs.

7. Emergency Education in Crisis Settings

   • Set up temporary learning spaces in camps and conflict-affected areas.

   • Distribute emergency education kits with essential learning supplies.

   • Coordinate psychosocial support and safe spaces for children in emergencies.
